Biography

Nikita Khnykin

Nikita Khnykin was born in 2003 in Norway and started playing the piano at the age of nine. He is currently enrolled in the “Young Talents”-program at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where his teacher is Christian Ihle Hadland. Nikita is also a member of the talent program at Prof. Jiri Hlinkas Piano Academy, a mentoring program where participants receive regular tuition from leading musicians, such as Leif Ove Andsnes and Henning Kraggerud, as well as masterclasses with visiting world-class pianists, such as Bertrand Chamayou and Richard Goode. 

Nikita has won a number of competitions, both national and international, including top-prizes in the Ungdommens Musikkmesterskap, where he was also honored with the EMCY Prize and the Audience Prize, the Steinway Piano Competition and the Young Musician International Competition in Tallinn, Estonia. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at concerts and festivals in Norway and abroad, for instance at “De Unges Konsert” in April 2019, with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, where he was awarded the Audience Prize and a scholarship from Kavlifondet. Recently, he played Chopin’s 1st Piano Concerto with Asker Symphony Orchestra, and future engagements include performances of Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with singers from Cæciliaforeningen and musicians from the Oslo Philharmonic. He is also a finalist in the Norwegian Soloists Competition “Virtuos” and will perform in the finals with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK). Previously he has performed Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto with KORK, as well as other orchestras, such as Kaunas Philharmonic Orchestra.  

Nikita is a passionate chamber musician and has played in various ensembles. He has, together with the clarinet trio “DaNiBi”, been part of the Norwegian mentoring program “Crescendo”. As a chamber musician, he has performed at the Kavli Prize Award Ceremony, Bergen International Festival, Oslo Kammermusikkfestival, and numerous other high-profile occasions. Nikita has been awarded a handful of scholarships from The Kavli Trust (Kavlifondet), Ånun Lund Rejs Minnefond and Drømmestipendet.
